Greetings Everyone,
I’m opening a new section today with personal ratings for fine cigars. I am well aware of a standard rating system for cigars, however this is for the “everyday” man, thus our scale of rating will be the arbitrary 1 to 10.
For those unfamiliar with such a scale, 1 is the worst and 10 is the best. It’s usually found that people rating 11 are not to be trusted, because it is my belief that they drink in the morning…
This list will grow with time, so bookmarking may be appropriate.
I do not intend to bore you with a large post, but I do need to apprise you of my biases… I enjoy a smooth to mild smoke with a good draw. I have determined that the punch method of cigar cutter limits or unnecessarily melds the flavors of the cigar together, making it difficult to taste what a cigar can offer. I do enjoy a coffee taste, however I do try to limit the amount of earth available in some brands. Keep off the spicy side and everything will be alright.

- La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel (9/10)
- This cigar is to normal cigar smokers as to what “Everclear” is to underage drinkers. This cigar flat out made me loopy. The recommendation comes by way of Rush Limbaugh, a veteran cigar connoisseur. By no means can these words mark up such a recommendation from him, but this attempt can only name this cigar as the absolute best [to date]. If you’re looking for a cigar with a fabulous burn, nice draw and fragrant, aromatic smoke, this is for you. I look forward to this being my next box!

- Cusano 18 Paired Maduro Robusto (8/10)
- Spicy, bold, good. Nothing more to say about that.

- Cusano 18 Churchill (8/10)
- This cigar was fantastic. Smooth flavor, nice draw. Nothing bold in the slightest and kept getting better as the burn went on.

- Cusano 10 Year Anniv. Robusto (8/10)
- Yet another hit! This cigar in comparison to the Cusano 18 is bold in flavor. Many rich flavors, wonderful aroma; absolutely wonderful aroma! This cigar has a bit more spice than I’m used to, however in this case, it’s no discouragement!

- Macanudo (6/10)
- I smoked two of these cigars in a week. The first had fantastic flavor. It was more bold for my liking, but it was a good smoke. What hurt its rating was the second, which wasn’t as pleasurable as the first.

- Romeo y Julieta Anniv. Edi. Churchill (6/10)
- Rated at this level, this smoke compared to the other cigars on the list rated good, but not as strong. It was more mild than marketed and was disappointed when I found that it’s taste was not as full as I had expected.

- Cao Gold (5/10)

- Punch - Punch (3/10)
- Usually for lower level ratings, we don’t give justifications, however for this cigar, we are. I gave this cigar a low rating for two reasons: it was not an enjoyable smoke and it’s an overrated cigar. For the money, Cusano would be a better pick.
